The history of RTF's longest standing product worldwide - Boomerang

RTF’s first product was a simple retail display solution, made of a pad that comes back, every time.

Boomerang simply defined is a small, low-profile security pad that attaches to merchandise using a very high bond 3M tape called VHB. These pads match with mounts using magnets along with an intuitive mechanical design to ensure display merchandise always comes back to the spot it started.
The original Boomerang was a cost friendly, fast, easy, and effective visual merchandising solution. After improvements throughout the years Boomerang2 was introduced and our current rendition, Boomerang3 appeared in 2007. This store fixture merchandising system is still going strong today - the solution has been so effective and successful that the basic concept hasn’t changed in 6 years.

In 2011, as the popularity of Tablets increased, so did the rate of theft. The Boomerang3X reduced Tablet shoplifting and is compatible with both electronic and mechanical recoilers and supplies both charging and alarming functionality.

Apple introduces a new version of the iPhone 5

Apple has officially announced that September 10 will be the date it launches its much anticipated new iPhone 5S.

The event will take place at the Apple Campus in Cupertino and, according to rumors, will see the unveiling not only the new and improved Smartphone but also the low-cost iPhone, dubbed the 5C.

The 5S will reportedly come with an improved camera and in different colored options, while the iPhone 5C will feature a plastic backing and remain essentially the same technology-wise as the iPhone 5.

The firm sent out invites to the press featuring the phrase "This should brighten everyone's day", along with a graphic depiction of multi-colored dots, which has led some to suggest an indication that the new iPhone 5 will come in a variety of colors, including one that resembles RTF's product brand color, blue.

SmartCircle 2.0 - New features, greater control and more flexibility

New features, greater control and more flexibility
SmartCircle is a cross-platform Smart Retail Automation System that monitors, secures and manages Smartphones and Tablets on display. SmartCircle uses the power and intelligence of merchandised handheld devices to provide a multitude of retail solutions. Hardware merchandise systems are no longer the only, or most effective, method of preventing shoplifting. Therefore, merchandising technologies such as SmartCircle are being implemented to aid in mobile device security. Store traffic intelligence, customer experience management and anti-theft protection are just a few of the features SmartCircle offers. 

To prevent product theft, SmartCircle alarms on Display devices when triggered by headphone removal, SIM card removal, loss of WiFi or loss of power. When alarming, Display devices can be set to play 1 of 5 alarm sounds. Manager devices can set whether or not to receive e-mails and/or SMS messages when a Display device alarms, as well as set the frequency of these alerts. Geo-location detection is available during alarming, and sent in SMS and/or e-mail messages to the Manager. Marketing media plays on idle Display devices using customizable pictures, videos, or websites, and audio. SmartCircle not only provides anti-theft protection, but also protects device networks and settings by blocking access to these areas.

With the introduction of SmartCircle Version 2.0, more features have been added to the extensive list from Version 1.0. Now, the alarm screen on Display devices is customizable and will change orientation when the device is tilted. This means that store managers can choose the tone of the message portrayed to customers when devices alarm.

While alarming, the device can be unlocked using the four corners in either landscape or portrait orientation. Unlocking is easier for managers now with both portrait and landscape capabilities, allowing for quick alarm shut-off and minimal store disturbance.

The Smart Sweep function has been added to wipe any unnecessary or unwanted content from Display devices; for example, the last website visited or photos taken by a customer. This function allows stores to manage their brand and image to the public. Inappropriate content left on devices by a previous customer can lead to an unpleasant experience for the next customer, leading to a potential lost sale.

While in idle mode, the media playing on a Display device will change orientation, either landscape or portrait, depending on the orientation of the device itself. Previously, two separate media files were needed on any Display device for portrait and landscape orientation. Now, configuration is simple because only one media file is required and will automatically orientate itself.

When a device is lifted or touched by a customer, media such as a website, image, or video is triggered. Now, a third-party app can also be configured to open. This feature can allow more interactive marketing to the customer. Choose which app opens, either when the device is touched or lifted, and allow the customer to fully engage with the device, leading to a more enjoyable and knowledgeable purchasing experience.

Digital price tag
Marketing media has been enhanced to include a digital price tag, which can be configured on any Display device. Configuration is web-based, making it easy to update content on a device displaying a digital price tag. The Display device will periodically pull content from the media URL, meaning the most current deals and promotions are always shown.

To optimize the customer experience, a function has been developed to provide Managers the option to configure a countdown warning when a Display device has had its power source removed. The countdown can be configured with a delay and is fully customizable. This feature enables full, unencumbered interaction with the device removed from its power source for the customer. Store managers can configure the countdown feature to any amount of time with any message. This message will alert the customer that they have a certain amount of time with the device removed from charging, before it alarms.

SmartCircle is not only available for Smartphones and Tablets, but other handheld devices such as Smart Cameras as well. The Samsung Galaxy Camera is an example of an Android device protected by SmartCircle.

Accurate Planograms for Wireless Retail Stores



Cell phones and PC Tablets in retail stores around the world need to be properly positioned in order to provide wireless carriers such as Bell, Verizon, Movistar, Telstra and Vodafone the confidence to execute in-store marketing strategies.


A store Planogram is like a road map of where Smartphones and Tablets need to be merchandised in the store. Retail staff are responsible to follow the Planogram guide and place the mobile devices in the proper order.

This is the intent but it is not always followed to perfection, and devices are placed in the wrong order leaving head office in the dark and not able to verify accuracy.

Through SmartCircle, Planogramming can be easily verified via the software loaded into each Smartphone or Tablet on display. RTF adds to worldwide operations and opens offices in China

RTF is excited to announce the opening of our third global office in China to better serve the retail safety and security solutions market. In April of 2011, RTF opened its first international office in the UK to support the growing European customer base and the new China location demonstrates the company’s continuous growth in only two years.


Design
This new office located in Dongguan, Guangdong province will carry out product design, quality assurance and manage the direct-ship warehouse. RTF has moved design and quality control teams to this location, resulting in quicker, more innovative design, greater efficiency and quality, as well as an overall cost reduction leading to a better customer experience. The team in China consists of a supply manager, four dedicated in-house engineers including electrical and mechanical with specializations in robotics, quality assurance and ISO practices, as well as an IT specialist in the areas of translation and business requirements.

This facility will enhance RTF’s position in mobile security retail solutions for Smartphones, Tablets and handheld devices. RTF’s team of engineers are leaders in the loss prevention industry that work on the “follow-the-sun” cycle, decreasing the time to market for new product introductions and dramatically reducing defects. The RTF China team has been busy designing, prototyping and engineering our new anti-theft protection solutions.

RTF evolves as it continues to revolutionize the industry

On Day 106, RTF successfully launched its revolutionary software for collecting and reporting customer behavior


On June 27 2013, RTF launched an innovative addition to the SmartCircle OS software - SmartCircle Metrics.

It is said that by 2020, 50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet - from our refrigerators and cars to perhaps, us. This estimated 14 trillion dollar business is known as the Internet of Things and will have a great future impact on our lives. RTF shares this vision of the Internet of Things and has applied it to wireless display and security solutions


Through SmartCircle OS, Smartphone and Tablet devices are protected and secured on SmartCircle’s wireless network. Now, innate device behavior is captured by SmartCircle Metrics from Display devices.


During the North American launch Bill Dandie, President of RTF Global, commented on the Internet of Things and SmartCircle, “We are moving into a time when everything will be connected to the Internet, so why not start with SmartCircle? These devices are so intelligent already, why not utilize that to our benefit.”


SmartCircle Metrics will introduce new insight into store marketing, operations and loss prevention. Stores will have more control over device status, charging levels, and quick problem resolution. Head office will better understand their customer, store layouts, staff productivity and marketing effectiveness.

Bill demonstrated how easy it is to collect and view the Metrics in a graphical dashboard. Information can be viewed from different stores at different points in time - yesterday, last week, last month, etc.

Guests in attendance were attentive and wowed by what SmartCircle is capable of. Many shared ideas with the RTF staff on how they envision SmartCircle working for them in their unique settings.

Day 106, the launch of SmartCircle Metrics, was shared with North America. In the coming months more layers will be added to the SmartCircle OS foundation, enabling this revolutionary software to do so much more.
