HP Slate is a true PC Tablet at Risk of Shoplifting in Retail Stores

iPad or PC Tablet?
By Bill Dandie

The New HP Slate feels like a personal computer and actually needs a Stylus to operate its touch screen functionality. During the first night of play I wasn't even aware that a Stylus was required and became frustrated by the unresponsive touch interface.

After the iPad launched in April 2010 it set the stage for responsive touch screen interaction and to regress back to a Stylus left me putting down the HP Slate and picked up my iPad 2.

I actually needed to tether the "AAAA" battery operated Stylus to the leather carrying case because the HP Slate doesn't have an on-board slot to accept the Stylus when not in use.

The HP Slate is quite heavy in comparison to the iPad 2 and for an upcoming European trip the iPad 2 and the Motorola Xoom made the short list to accompany me but because I want to travel light the iPad 2 will visit Paris, London, Milan, Barcelona and Athens with me.

Also I have grown accustomed to a Tablet being a Tablet and not a personal computer. There is a reason why PC sales are down and Tablets and iPads way up because I believe people are ready for a change.

When I powered up the Slate and saw the little Microsoft logo I thought it would be running the new Mobile 7 which would have grabbed my attention and allowed me to linger longer with the Slate. But no, it booted up Microsoft 7 and instead of using a cool new Tablet with a new operating system I interacted with a flat PC with a Stylus on a string - not very exciting.

So as a lucky guy, having tech all around me in my Tablet playground my current FAV's are iPad/ iPad2, followed by the Motorola Xoom [Big fan of Google] and just over the weekend I started to play with the new BlackBerry Playbook and at first impression ... I like it.

RTF is designing a solution to protect the HP Slate in retail stores by utilizing our two claw Vise3 system. This mechanical claw will lock to the PC Tab and be electronically secured with a merchandise alarm that alerts staff to theft. With our pre theft technology built into every RTF system before the cable is cut the siren will sound and the theft thwarted.

Currently RTF has loss prevention solutions to help secure and protect the iPad/ iPad 2, Motorola Xoom and the Blackberry Playbook.

Artica and RTF Global work together in Barcelona, Spain during the 2011 MWC

Microsoft experienced a great turnout at Mobile World Conference based on the amazing exhibit and Mobile 7 Smartphone Display.

Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona is the biggest platform for mobile technology in Europe. Together with IPG and RTF Global Artica created a booth for Microsoft®. The booth needed to incorporate several Business Groups within Microsoft® which made it a very complex project that ended up with more than 40 design revisions. In the end we only had 3 weeks to produce, implement and build the booth elements!
The end result is stunning! The exhibit is an environment with interactive messaging and creative elements to present Windows Phone®. During show it occurred many times that the booth was packed and the crowd gathered in the isles to take notice of the presentations and participate in discussions.
Proudly we can say that this is a success story and we want to share it with the world!

Think Ranch is a creative, casual campus that seeds and sows innovative loss prevention solutions

Concept for the new thinkRANCH - Front
Think Ranch - Ideas are Planted and Solutions Harvested Worldwide

Situated on over 50 acres in the rolling hills of Caledon are the head offices of RTF Global Inc.  RTF is a global designer and manufacturer of retail loss prevention systems that reduce theft of merchandise in retail stores and promote sales through attractively displaying and presenting consumer electronics.

Today consumer products are becoming more expensive and with the recent explosion in the PC Tablet market these little flat screen computers are at a very high risk of theft.

The need or the idea is cultivated at RTF's Think Ranch where a team of mechanical, electronic and software engineers along with customer service, sales, and operational team members meet to discuss a new solution.

Solutions become real only when they have passed through a series of criteria that ensure that a great idea can be properly manufactured in a cost effective manner and is supportable in the field.  This is why a team is needed from the first sketch to the final instructions are produced and shipped with the new product.

RTF is able to achieve successful product development through listening to the customer, designing and producing anti-theft security systems rapidly and at a reasonable cost.

Our worldwide distribution through authorized and accredited resellers or RTF offices, such as RTF Europe in the UK, ensures the product is in stock and supported locally ensuring a quick turnaround, accessible and useful customer service via the Web, telephone support and in field tech support.

Think Ranch is key to the creative process and mirrors the SkyWalker Ranch in Northern California where the property, culture and environment focuses on providing employees an enjoyable work place, great facilities such as a gym and miles of walking trials and many outdoor meeting and work areas.

Customers, suppliers and competitors are always welcome and the "Ranch" has rooms so the faculties can be enjoyed overnight as well. Employees with longer commutes are encouraged to use the accommodations to reduce travel time, stress and improve the quality of life.

Minutes away is the famous brother and sister golf course, the Devil's Pulpit and the Devil's Paintbrush that was developed by the creators of "Trivial Pursuit". Together, the Paintbrush and Pulpit are considered "the best two-course golf club in the world" by U.S. architect Rees Jones and Canadian Sports writer Lorne Rubenstein.

Yearly RTF hosts Customer Summits where meetings at the Think Ranch focus on improving efficiencies and communication as well as connecting with customers over lunch at the Pulpit and a round of golf.

Our products, delivery and support are unique and innovative and through the same office environment we can achieve greatness and provide long lasting retail display security solutions to our satisfied customer worldwide.

The Blackberry Playbook launches on April 19th and will be protected from shoplifting by two RTF loss prevention solutions

Due to the high theft risk of Tablets, RTF has two options to protect and secure the new Blackberry Playbook while on display in retail stores.

The first mechanical loss prevention solution incorporates the ViseX system where all four corners are secured and then locked into a central alarm sensor that provides power and alarm for the new Blackberry PC Tablet.

Designed to allow the consumer full use of the Playbook's corner hot spots the 4 claw mechanical gripping system ensures unencumbered use while providing the highest level of display security.

Install the new PC Tablet on RTF's Lift Act system and the Playbook will be virtually impenetrable to theft.

The second option is RTF's standard 2 claw, Vise3 system. Once the large [L] locking clamp to installed the Playbook is fully functional and secured while providing perfectly presented display quality.

Boomerang3 ensures the display merchandise sits perfectly straight

Meteor - Ireland
One of RTF's most successful products used worldwide by leading retailers is a little security pad that always comes back... every time - Boomerang.

This simple 3M tape pad is not only attractive, low profile and very secure, but is also detachable and can be removed from the cable using a secure tool.

In kiosk environments the detachable retail display security pad makes short work of removing Smartphones from the display at night. In the morning simply click the recoiler aircraft cable back into the Boomerang3 and display.

Target Radio Shack - USA
Within retail shops re-merchandising Smartphones is simple by moving the product from one display to another without removing the tape.

The "rare earth" magnets buried into the pad and mount ensure a clean display and all product remain attractive, straight and ready for the next customer interaction.

Bell - Canada
With 100's of thousands of security pads in the field the Boomerang3 fixture security solution to display non working consumer electronics such as Smartphones, Tablets, GPS Navigation and even razors [Best Buy - USA] satisfy customers through aesthetics, quality, longevity, functionality and the price.

Apple iPod, iTouch and Shuffle Retail Fixture Loss Prevention Systems

Remember your first Apple iPod?  It was probably the original white one... that little music box became part of your life and played all your favorite tunes as you exercised, drank morning coffee or relaxed at the beach.

The Apple iPod and iTouch are popular music systems and while on display in retail stores targets of shoplifters. RTF has engineered a loss prevention system to power and charge the iTouch, mechanically secure it and alarm the tiniest iPod Shuffle alerting the staff to the theft.

The RTF anti-theft loss prevention system attach to the iPod using reinforced aluminium claws that attractively grips both sides and secures the iPod to a recoiler.

A red LED on the sensor deters theft and when a thief attempts to cut the cable the alarm triggers before the aircraft cable is served resulting in less shop loss.
